HISLEA - About Us

The History of HISLEA

The Hispanic Illinois State Law Enforcement Association (HISLEA) is a not-for-profit organization 501(c)(3), which has been in existence since 1987. HISLEA is dedicated to providing a statewide perspective and definitive voice on issues facing Hispanics in law enforcement. Its membership and executive board are comprised of Hispanic law enforcement officers from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Through the use of media outlets such as television, radio, and news publications, HISLEA publicly advocates policies and programs that promote the hiring, appointment, and advancement of Hispanics at all levels in the criminal justice system.

HISLEA's Community Involvement

Since its inception in 1987, HISLEA has demonstrated its commitment to the Hispanic community through special annual programs such as the following:

HISLEA Safety Fair		College Scholarship Program
	Illinois State Police demonstrate seatbelt safety during rollover accidents with a custom-built demonstrator.		Joseph Anthony Martinez receives a $1000 scholarship from HISLEA at its 16th annual recognition banquet.
Thanksgiving Sharing Program		Operation Santa Claus
	HISLEA members prepare food baskets for less fortunate families.		Children pose with Santa & HISLEA members at Cárdenas Lazarus School, after receiving Christmas presents from HISLEA's Operation Santa Claus Program.

HISLEA's Professional Involvement

Since its inception in 1987, HISLEA has also demonstrated its commitment to the Hispanic employees from federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies through special annual programs such as the following:
